I thought this would be a cool idea, hope you might find it helpful or you can correct my mistakes ^^;

I'd first of all divide my work into several parts, but before that, I'll tell you the different stuff I've used for this work,

Pencils:
2H,4H,4B and 0.5mm,0.7mm mechanical pencils.

A kneaded eraser, a sheet of white paper to place it underneath my hand so that I wouldn't smudge the sketch accidentally. Keep in mind not to use your fingers to smudge the drawing, use a paper stump or swabs.

lines and curves:
I began by drawing the initial outlines.[many people say that it's not that necessary to get the curves right and you can correct 'em during the shading process. Well thats up to you, but make sure you do not get totally different shape] I work on the eyes/eyebrows first (let alone the eye lashes, It's better to draw them at the end of the drawing) get those lines and curves in right position and then the nose (I'm told that the gap between the two eyes will be of one full eye length). Then I work on the outlines of the face and the rest of the figure. Well, It's better to draw few little rough lines where the shade is present and leave the highlighted areas untouched.

Face:
Now that I've done the outlines, I first start shading the face. [I've done a big mistake by working on the hair, thus my first attempt was a failure, without wasting any time I took a fresh paper and started all over again. :( Anyways, It's not a big deal but it's better NOT to work on the hair at first as you might find it difficult to work on the face without smudging the already shaded hair]. I used a 0.5mm and 0.7mm pencils to shade the eyes. [draw a very thin line for the lower part of the eye, it appears more realistic that way]. I used a 0.5mm pencil to draw the eyebrows, 4H pencil for the skin tone [you can use H,F,B or any other, depends on the skin tone you desire]. I started shading the areas where I've drawn some rough lines before, leaving the highlighted areas untouched. You should carefully shade those lines so close by barely touching the paper, then grab a swab or paper stump and smudge across those lines, now it appears very smooth, again shade the same way and smudge it. Repeat the process for some 4 or 5 times, it gives the depth to the piece. For the lips I used a 2H pencil and a 0.5mm. Layered shading is a good approach as you can blend it all smoothly, it all depends on how much pressure you apply on the paper, if you press harder, darker the line. By using a kneaded eraser, wipe off the unwanted lines and the graphite residue in the highlight areas.

Hair:
Drawing the hair was very hectic. I used only 4B pencil throughout the process. At first I've drawn some rough lines using a 2H pencil where the hair was so thick and dark, leaving the rest untouched. Then I've shaded the regions where I have drawn the rough lines, shaded very dark. Then I gradually shaded around the darker regions by applying less pressure and then drawn some random lines in the untouched region, drawn along the curve of the hair. It was challenging at first, but I enjoyed it as I understood the technique.

I hope this is worth reading. =p Thank you.
